Press Release: President Barroso to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to ‘step up’ EU-Russia strategic partnership

Preview of a meeting between the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on 17 March 2006 in Moscow for a broad discussion on global issues and future EU-Russia relations. The meeting was to take place ahead of the forthcoming G8 Summit in St. Petersburg and in view of the need to frame the post-2007 relationship (the current EU-Russia Partnership and Co-operation agreement were to expire in 2007).
