Press Release: EDPS generally satisfied with security in EURODAC central unit

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), who exercises data-protection supervisory authority for EURODAC, completed his first inspection of the central unit of the fingerprint database, 9.3.06. An inspection report was sent to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council, and to data protection authorities in the Member States. The report covered the first stage of a comprehensive inspection, which was to be followed by an in-depth security audit by mid 2006. The EDPS expressed general satisfaction with the security level, although a number of concrete recommendations were given.
