Ireland to dash French treaty hopes

Micheál Martin, Ireland's Foreign Minister, published 10 September 2008 the results of the first serious research analysis of the votes in the Irish referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon which had taken place in June 2008.

As a result article reports that Ireland would tell its European partners at the European Council summit in October 2008 that it is not possible to stage a fresh referendum on the Lisbon treaty before the European Parliament elections in June 2009, as France and others have sought.
