The European Commission on 6 April 2006 endorsed, under the EC Treaty’s rules on state aid, €232.5 million of public funding for a research and development project jointly set up by Infineon Technologies AG, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) in Dresden, Germany (Saxony). The project was aimed at establishing a research platform for nanoelectronic technologies including two new research centres where a series of collaboration research projects were planned to be carried out. As all the requirements of the Community framework for state aid for research and development were met, the Commission considered that the aid was compatible with the EC Treaty (Article 87).
