The UK Chancellor, Gordon Brown, in November 2005, appointed Neil Davidson QC, to lead an independent review to look not only at 'goldplating', (where the implementation goes beyond the minimum necessary to comply with an EU directive by, for example, using wider legal terms than those in the directive, or extending the scope) but also at the broader issue of over-implementation of EU legislation in the United Kingdom. On 3 March 2006, the review issued a call for evidence. Deadline for responses: 25 May 2006. Summary of responses was published in July 2006. |
