The United States Congress on 1 February 2006 passed the 'Deficit Reduction Act 2005', which among other provisions repealed the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act, more commonly known as the 'Byrd Amendment'. The Deficit Reduction Act was to enter into force once the President had signed it into law. The European Commission welcomed the move saying that the vote was a significant step towards bringing the United States into compliance with its WTO obligations and removing a serious trade problem. |
