Press Release: Croatia: European Commission proposes negotiating framework for membership talks with Croatia

Based on the information it possessed at the moment on Croatia's cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal, the European Commission would not be able to recommend opening accession talks with Zagreb, which are scheduled for March 17, said in Brussels Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn. Rehn went on to say that based on the information obtained from the tribunal's chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, and other well-informed sources it could be assumed that General Ante Gotovina was within the reach of Croatian authorities
