Italy's largest bank, UniCredito, is considering a negotiated settlement with the new Polish Government over a merger of two banks it controls, Pekao and BPH. The deal has already been approved by the European Commission, and the Commission has now written to Poland's Treasury asking why the Government has told UniCredit it is blocking the deal.
