Press Release: Declaration from the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the Belarus Helsinki Committee

The European Union has expressed its concern at the re-opening of the case against the Belarus Helsinki Committee (BHC) for alleged tax evasion relating to TACIS grants. The EU has urged the Belarusian authorities to cease their campaign of harassment against the BHC, a voluntary, independent and non-political social organisation whose main objective is ‘the protection of human rights, declared by Helsinki agreements and other international treaties on human rights in the Republic of Belarus’.
