On 21.7.00 Robin Cook, UK Foreign Secretary, joined the government's show of unity over euro membership, when he told business leaders in Edinburgh that Labour would take Britain into the single currency only if the economic condtions were right. He had previously stated that joining the euro was 'inevitable'.
