Press Release: Fisheries negotiations EU/Morocco: ‘No agreement would be missed opportunity for Morocco’

On 29-30.11.00, the EU and Morocco held fisheries negotiations in Rabat. Both parties presented their respective positions and it was agreed to hold the next meeting in Brussels the following week. The EU side reiterated the importance a co-operation agreement in the fisheries sector would have, as it would substantially support the development of the Moroccan fisheries sector. In the meeting, the EU sought to identify a common ground between the parties which would include the compromises necessary to reach an agreement. The EU gave concrete indications of its flexibility and willingness to compromise but, unfortunately, these efforts were not reciprocated on the Moroccan side.
