Press Release: Expulsion of EU citizens from Germany on grounds of public policy. Commission decides to send reasoned opinion

On 11.7.00, the Commission decided to send Germany a reasoned opinion (the second stage of the infringement procedure in Article 226 of the EC Treaty) for violating rules in Community law laying down substantive and formal requirements to be met when a Member State decides to expel an EU citizen on grounds of public policy. If there is no satisfactory response within two months from the date of receipt of the reasoned opinion, the Commission could bring proceedings against Germany before the Court of Justice.
