Report on the UK’s accession to the EC published

Sir Con O'Neill's 1972 report on the UK's entry to the EC was published on 7.9.00. Early publication of this report is another example of the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices's commitment to greater openness and transparency. Under the 30-year rule the Report is not due for release to the Public Record Office (PRO) until 2003. But in 1998 the FCO took the decision to declassify it ahead of schedule and publish it. This is the first time that there has been advance publication and release of historical material about our entry to the EU. The original document will be made available at the Public Record Office.
