Press Release: Commission calls for high-level political mandate at Lisbon special summit to build an inclusive and job-rich Europe

The Commission agreed 1.3.00 a package of three papers presented by Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou as part of the Commission's input to the special European Council summit in Lisbon in March, 2000. Commissioner Diamantopoulou called for a comprehensive and integrated strategy to stamp out social exclusion and build an inclusive economy and society in the European Union. The package of three papers sets out a policy strategy for achieving full employment and social inclusion against the backdrop of the major social and technological changes sweeping through European society.
