Press Release: The Commission reaffirms its commitment to merit, equal opportunities and geographical balance in senior appointments

The European Commission has reaffirmed its commitments to making senior appointments of officials on the basis of quality as the premium consideration, and to improving the proportion of women appointed to senior posts.

Building on recent improvements, the Commission committed itself on 14.12.99 to further modernising and professionalising its procedures for senior appointments. Detailed proposals will be made within 6 months and they will include provisions for continuing the participation of external advisors.
