EU Databases User Group first meeting

The EU Databases User Group (EUDUG), formerly known as the UK Eurobases User Group was relaunched on 15 July when it held its first meeting under its new name at the European Parliament Office in London. Guest speaker was Margarethe Braune, database manager of ECLAS, who gave the latest information on developments there. Also launched was the new web site for the group which gives information on its activities, role, committee members and contact details. It can be found at http://www.eudug.org/. Note the change in the URL from that reported in the previous issue of European Access. Although the site is still in an embryonic state, the intention is that it will offer basic information about key databases and web sites relating to the EU, including costs and how to subscribe where applicable, database producer, frequency of updating and contents, as well as news items reporting any changes or difficulties. The group aims to draw on the expertise of its members, which covers a broad range of sectors and experience. It is hoped that a useful practical archive of information will quickly be built up through their shared contributions. By spreading the load and relying on regular users for comments, news or criticism it will be possible to monitor a wide selection of databases and other electronic resources. In its role as a lobby group, EUDUG should be able to demonstrate that it is putting forward the voice of the user in offering constructive comment and suggestions.
