On globalisation of control: Towards an Integrated Surveillance System in Europe

In this 35,000-word pamphlet Thomas Mathiesen, Professor of Sociology of Law at the University of Oslo, analyses the surveillance mechanisms being created in the European Union - databases, the exchange of data, the almost complete lack of accountability and monitoring. It deals with Europol, the Schengen Information System and the SIRENE bureaux and places them in the context of the development of global surveillance systems being created by the EU and the USA.
