EU legislation: Information and consultation of employees. The Commission has adopted a proposal for a Council Directive establishing a general framework for informing and consulting employees in the EU. The initiative is regarded as an essential step in completing the EU's social dimension and in achieving the creation of an adaptable, high-skilled and motivated workforce. The proposal applies to enterprises with at least fifty employees. The UK Government has expressed opposition to the proposal and is said to have the support of the new German Government and UNICE. |
