Michel Barnier, the outgoing French foreign minister, launched a bitter attack on France's political establishment, and by implication President Jacques Chirac, 3 June 2005, for failing to work with Europe. French politicians should 'stop behaving as if Europe was separate from France', he said as he handed over the Quai d'Orsay foreign ministry to his successor Philippe Douste-Blazy.
