Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia, addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe during a visit on 26 January 2005. In his speech, Mr Saakashvili unveiled plans to give broad autonomy to South Ossetia, in an effort to bring peace to the region. He also said he was ready to extend this offer to another breakaway region - Abkhazia.
