European Commission President José Manuel Barroso faced his fellow Commissioners in the European Parliament on 25 May 2005 to defend his reputation. Mr Barroso was facing a Motion of Censure, signed by 77 MEPs, over a controversial holiday on the yacht of a Greek shipping tycoon. Mr Barroso denied a conflict of interest and has recently announced he will no longer be responsible for overseeing Commission policy on shipping cartels. MEPs will vote on the censure motion in their full session in Strasbourg in June 2005, but Mr Barroso looks set to survive.
