Preview of a visit of European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, to Moldova on 6-7 October 2005. The Commissioner was to open a new Delegation of the European Commission to Moldova on 6 October, to be headed by Cesare De Montis, and on 7 October she was planning to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Commission, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine paving the way for the launch of an EU Border Assistance Mission. It was hoped that improving co-operation between the two countries on border issues could also help create the right climate for settlement of the conflict in Transnistria. |
