Speaking after the close of the Spring European Council on 23 March 2005, French President Jacques Chirac demanded that the United Kingdom give up its €4.6bn rebate from the European Union. The remarks came on the day that European Union leaders, including UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, had rallied round Mr Chirac to help him win the French Referendum on the European Constitution which takes place on 29 May 2005. |
