Speaking in the House of Commons, UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw says, 6 June 2005, there is 'no point' in pursuing plans for a referendum on the EU constitution after France and the Netherlands voted 'No'. However, he also said it was not for the UK alone to decide the future of the treaty.
