The EU-US Summit held in Washington on 21 June 2005 agreed to boost trade and investment between the EU and the US by setting up a High Level Regulatory Co-operation Forum to facilitate the regulatory dialogue. Senior regulators on both sides were planning to share experiences, exchange best practices and identify priorities of cooperation for the coming year. In particular, the Forum was aimed at strengthening co-operation prior to establishing regulation. Furthermore, EU-US Leaders endorsed a concrete roadmap to improve regulatory co-operation. The '2005 Roadmap for Regulatory Cooperation' set the agenda for a number of concrete regulatory co-operation activities between the European Commission and the US Government for the coming year. The Summit encouraged co-operation on matters such as automobile safety and hydrogen fuel cells or non-animal testing methods in cosmetics (see MEMO/05/213).
