Press Release: EU gives Macedonian border police EUR2.8 million of equipment

The European Agency for Reconstruction, on 14 June 2005, handed over to the Macedonian Ministry of Interior 115 vehicles worth €2.8 million, for use by the Police Border Service. The Macedonian government was in the process of transferring responsibility for the management of the country's borders from the military to the police - a precondition of European Union integration. The EU facilitated this process by financing the training of border police personnel and supplying the service with much needed new equipment.
