Press Release: Chernobyl Shelter Fund: Commission announces additional EUR49 million

Report from a donor meeting for the Chernobyl Shelter Fund (CSF) in London, 12 May 2005, organised by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and attended by representatives of the European Commission, all G8 countries and Ukraine. At the meeting the European Commission announced an additional €49 million to the international Chernobyl Shelter Fund. Russia was to contribute to the fund for the first time. This additional contribution came on top of more than €600 million already pledged to the fund by 28 donor governments in 1997 and 2000. With this latest pledge, the European Commission had committed a total of €239.5 million for the Fund since 1997, making it the main donor.
