French put brave face on farm trade deal

Hervé Gaymard, France's Agriculture Minister, said on 2 August 2004 he was satisfied with the deal agreed on 31 July 2004 by trade ministers which envisages eventual scrapping of European Union farm export subsidies. The interim accord struck by the World Trade Organisation's 147 members was a breakthrough for the Doha global trade round, and commits rich countries to cutting billions of dollars in farm subsidies.
