German business (the BDI industry federation and the BDA employers' association) on 29 November 2004 welcomed new European Union rules that facilitate cross-border mergers within the bloc, following German government concessions to the EU. On 25 November 2004 the EU's Competitiveness Council agreed by a large majority on a general approach to a Directive on cross-border mergers of limited liability companies.
