The World Trade Organisation ruled on 8 September 2004 that European Union farm export subsidies on sugar breach international trade rules. The case had been brought to the WTO by Brazil, Thailand and Australia. The European Commission is likely to appeal against the ruling. The European Union is already discussing proposals to reform its sugar regime. |
