Preview of the 7th Annual EU-China Summit, which took place on 8 December 2004 in The Hague at which the European Union and China aimed at further strengthening their maturing strategic partnership. The EU raised topics including the fight against illegal migration, and human rights, and discussions also focussed on economic issues including the Doha Development Round, Textiles and other trade concerns. A number of international issues including North Korea and Burma/ Myanmar also featured. A joint declaration was signed on non-proliferation and arms control and agreements were also concluded on customs co-operation, and science and technology. The European Commission was represented by President José Manuel Barroso, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and Commissioner for External Trade, Peter Mandelson. The Chinese delegation was led by Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. |
