Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission, has overturned his decision to cancel a conference on anti-Semitism in Europe, due to take place in February 2004, after assurances from representatives of the Jewish community that they did not view the Commission as anti-Semitic. Controversy had arisen over a Flash Eurobarometer Flash Eurobarometer survey, 'Iraq and peace in the world', published in October 2003, which found that more than half the European Union public considers Israel a threat to world peace.
