The article analyses the current advancement of the European Union to the East of the continent through the prism of the gradual shift of its geopolitical, geo-economic and institutional frontiers that includes four fundamental components: basic stabilisation and democratisation, economic association and, eventually, institutional accession of the former 'socialist countries' to the EU. We suggest the Wider Europe's strategy to be the prolongation of the EU policy of 'deliberate uncertainty' carried out regarding the CIS European countries. |
