The volume of goods leaving factories in the eurozone declined in June 2009 after rising for the first time in many months in May 2009, a sharp reminder of the fragility of the economic stabilisation being seen in the 16-country region.

Nevertheless, other leading indicators – including business confidence surveys and a recent surge in orders reported by German manufacturers – have in past weeks persuaded economists that the worst may be over for the eurozone.
