Press Release: Acceding countries take important step forward in the fight against social exclusion

On 18 December 2003 the ten future Member States and the European Commission jointly signed Memoranda setting out the social situation and key challenges to be faced in combating social exclusion in these countries. The signing of the Joint Inclusion Memoranda (JIM) marks an important step in putting the fight against social exclusion on the European political agenda and addressing the concerns of people experiencing or at risk of poverty and social exclusion across the enlarged European Union.
