Treasury ‘using conversion to mask price rises’

The UK Treasury has been accused of wasting taxpayers' money in covert efforts to disguise any rise in the price of public services from joining the euro. The Conservatives claimed on 6 August 2003 that a Treasury document sent to local authorities told councils they might want to increase car parking charges, fines and prices for other services, using a euro changeover to mask the rises.
