Research by the (UK) Joseph Rowntree Foundation has drawn attention to the damage to family life caused by long working hours and is likely to put pressure on the UK Government to review the UK's opt-out from European Union working time limits. Many parents are unhappy about working long hours that breach the EU's Working Time Directive. The UK Trade Union Congress (TUC) opposes the UK's opt-out and is to launch a campaign in September 2003 which will clarify workers' rights under the Directive and explain how workers who have signed an individual opt-out may reverse it. |
