Abstract: This volume, the first of two, deals essentially with substantive patent law and is above all a commentary for practitioners. Its most important source material is the case law of the Boards of Appeal. The Preamble sets out the objectives to be achieved by the establishment of the European Patent Convention and aims to facilitate the understanding, interpretation and further development of the Convention. The volume is comprised of three parts. The first part deals with the general and institutional provisions in which the four principles that govern the entire Convention are laid down. The second part addresses substantive patent law that applies to European patent applications and European patents. Part three covers the requirements for the application of a European patent and filing of the application, and the right of priority and claiming such right. The whole of this is supported by a comprehensive set of appendices. The book is an essential guide and reference work for practitioners in European patent law. |
