Youth in the UNECE region: Realities, challenges and opportunities

This publication represents a presentation made by participants at the First UNECE Forum on Youth: Security, Opportunity and Prosperity, 26-28 August 2002. Promotion of youth entrepreneurship is increasingly regarded by many decision makers as a means to reduce youth unemployment, but also as a way to close the gap between demand and supply of skills in the light of a rapid technological change. In most of the countries of the region, governmental structures created to promote youth employment and entrepreneurship are relatively new, and there is an obvious need to asses the result of implementation of Government policies and measures, as well as numerous private and non-governmental initiatives, targeting youth.
