Trade war looms as US puts tariff on steel imports

The United States decided on 5 March 2002 to impose tariffs of 30% on most imported steel. The protection will last for three years and will offer the ailing US steel industry the most comprehensive trade protection in its history. The European Union is to launch an immediate complaint with the World Trade Organisation against a 'clear violation' of its rules.
