In a significant concession to the motor industry, UK Government Ministers are ready to announce that motorists will be forced to pay for the recycling of their old cars. The move, as Britain complies with a European Directive on recycling, will delay the obligation on car manufacturers to pay for taking back and dismantling end-of-life vehicles until at least 2007. The decision has dismayed environmentalists who fear a sharp increase in the number of abandoned cars.
