The European Parliament (Representation) Bill was published by the UK Government on 21 November 2002. This Bill has two roles: firstly, to establish a mechanism to alter the level of UK MEPs following enlargement of the European Union; and, secondly, to enable the people of Gibraltar to vote in European Parliamentary elections. It is hoped that these changes will have been brought into effect by the time of the 2004 European Parliamentary elections. Please note that the Lord Chancellor's Department was abolished in 2003 and replaced by a new Department for Constitutional Affairs. |
