The United States Government proposed on 25 July 2002 cuts in tariffs on agricultural products and domestic subsidies for farmers as part of the Doha Round of world trade negotiations. The proposals drew severe criticism from major US trading partners, particularly Europe, because it would require them to make far greater reductions in their support for agriculture than would the US.
