On 17 July 2002, the British beef industry received a big boost following an agreement reached in Brussels which would remove some of the rules governing beef exports. At the same time, the European Commission said it would refer its case against France over that government's illegal ban on British beef back to the European Court of Justice and would seek fines of around £100,000 a day. |
