On 25 September 2002, the first shipment of British beef abroad since the start of the Foot and Mouth outbreak was welcomed by the UK Food and Farming Minister, Lord Whitty, as a vital boost to the cattle industry. The first export consignment of beef from the UK since February 2001 left St Merryn Meat, Merthyr Tydfil, for the Netherlands under the Date-Based Export Scheme (DBES). |
