In conformity with the opinion of AFSSA, the French food safety agency, and immediately following a meeting of the National Committee for Sanitary Safety (CNSS), the French government announced, on 2 October 2002, that it was lifting its embargo on imports of British beef. This would take place following the publication of an interministerial order in the Official Journal of the European Communities.
