EU hit by accounting allegations

The €98bn budget of the European Union is an accountant's nightmare, riddled with mistakes and full of loopholes, according to Marta Andreasen, one of its own former auditors. Ms Andreasen's allegations are repeated in the Financial Times newspaper, which on 1 August 2002 published details of what it said were leaked documents from the European Court of Auditors.
