Press Release: Employment and Social Affairs Council, Brussels, 7 March 2002

The agenda focussed on three key areas:

1) An orientation debate which should serve as a basis for Presidency conclusions from the Employment and Social Affairs Council to the Barcelona spring summit including discussion of the Synthesis Report, the annual Scoreboard on the Social Agenda, the Joint Commission/Council Report on Labour Supply and Active Ageing and the European Commission's proposal for an Action Plan for Labour Mobility.
2) A televised public debate on Violence against Women based on questions by the Presidency.
3) Other issues including the European Commission's proposal for revision of the asbestos directive and a progress report on the European Co-operative Society.
