Stars in their eyes: Local vs regional government

The article concerns the current power struggle between regional and local government. At a UK national level there has been mention of abolishing county councils to make way for regional assemblies. At a European level, until now, local authorities and regions have worked together to create a subnational voice in contrast to that of national governments. But cracks in this coalition of interest are beginning to appear.
