Report of a meeting of the G8 group in Genoa, 20-22 July 2001. G8 leaders formally launched a $1.3bn health fund for poor countries and endorsed a plan for development in Africa drawn up by African leaders. Due to the violent protest around the summit, Canada's Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, announced that the 2002 meeting, hosted by his country, would be more informal with smaller delegations.
